Nutritional Counseling Services
Good nutrition is a necessary part of good preventive care for your pet. Whether you are feeding a growing kitten, a senior canine, an overweight Labrador, or a pet with a medical condition, proper nutrition plays an important role. The amount of available information on nutrition is overwhelming, with much of it being from non-veterinary sources. At South Forsyth Animal Hospital, our doctors and staff are trained to help you make the best decision about what to feed your pet. Our hospital carries a number of prescription diets that are used as part of a total healthcare plan tailored to the individual needs of each patient.
Prescription Diets
We carry a number of Royal Canin, Hills and Purina prescription diets. These therapeutic diets may benefit conditions such as:
- Food allergies
- Diabetes
- Inflammatory Bowel Disease
- Kidney Disease
- Liver Disease
- Lower Urinary Tract Disease
- Obesity
Diets that we do not routinely stock can be special ordered with a few days notice.
A Word About Obesity
A recent survey by the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention showed that 57.9% of cats and 52.7% of dogs are overweight or obese. The major health risks associated with obesity in dogs and cats include Type 2 Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Respiratory Difficulty, Heart Disease, and Osteoporosis. Obesity can also decrease a pet's life expectancy by 2 1/2 years. Nutrition plays an important role in combating this growing problem. We would be happy to design a weight loss program for your pet!
